The Selkrix Rex originated in Montana in 1987, when a shelter cat with a naturally curly coat gave rise to the breed. Unlike other Rex cats, the Selkirk’s curls come from a dominant gene, resulting in plush, teddy bear-like fur that can be short or long.
Personality-wise, Selkirks are laid-back, affectionate, and patient. They are gentle companions, often described as having a sweet and tolerant nature. Adaptable to various households, they enjoy play but also love long cuddles, making them excellent family pets.
