The British Shorthair & Longhair is one of the oldest recognized cat breeds, dating back to Roman times when cats were brought to Britain to control vermin. Selective breeding in the 19th century refined their sturdy build and plush coat. The British Longhair emerged later through crossbreeding with Persians, carrying the same traits but with a luxuriously longer coat.
Personality-wise, British cats are calm, gentle, and dignified. They are affectionate without being clingy, enjoying companionship but also valuing their independence. Loyal and easygoing, they adapt well to family life and are generally good with children and other pets.
