The Munchkin cat is a relatively modern breed, officially recognized in the early 1990s, though short-legged cats have appeared naturally for decades. Their signature short legs come from a genetic mutation, similar to the one that gives Dachshunds their stature. Despite their unique appearance, Munchkins are healthy, active, and highly adaptable.
Personality-wise, Munchkins are playful, curious, and affectionate. They are often described as “kitten-like” throughout their lives, enjoying interactive play and climbing despite their shorter legs. Social and friendly, they tend to get along well with children, other cats, and even dogs, making them a lively and loving companion.
